my party was walking throught the mountains when we heard a roar in the distance. it was a yettie and i jumped at it with two daggers plunging them both in deep within it eyes blinding the beast then as i jump gracefully down i slit its throat leaving it dead in its tracks.

Are you familiar with Curse of Strahd? The party had had a confrontation with Strahd on the Tser Falls Bridge (from where he had just thrown Ismarck to his death). He had berated them and made a grand exit, leaving a Blue Dragon (it's a long story) in his wake for them to deal with. In the course of the battle a big hole was created in the middle of the bridge, and the combat took place around it.

The Gnome Illusionist had recently acquired a Wand of Wonders, and as he was at a sensible distance, decided to release one of its random effects at the Dragon. The Wand of Wonders has a lot of very good and very bad effects, but I don't think any of us imagined that he would end up summoning an Elephant! Directly next to the Dragon, which was enough that it immediately tipped into the hole in the bridge and fell a thousand feet to the river below.

I ruled that as everyonw was speechless, the whole combat just stopped, with even the Dragon and everybody just watching the elephant suddenly appearing out of thin air, stumbling over the edge, and falling....

Basically everyone, Dragon included, thought or said, "What the ...." and then shook their heads and got back to trying to kill each other!

One time my friend jokingly said that she was gonna chop the enemies toes off....

    she rolled a 20.

she cut the toes off of a lich.
The liches servents just stared at her in shock.
    Then she rolled for damage.
And she ended up killing the lich.
It was a good day that day.

So far, my favorite was a boss battle that I just ran about two weeks ago (with a few on-the-fly tweaks).

The fight started with the boss immediately killing his two lackeys behind him and using their souls to open a portal that would summon undead creatures at the top of every round depending on my dice rolls until the boss was killed. If a portal was closed prematurely, everyone within a certain radius of the portal in question had to make a DEX saving throw or take necrotic damage (which healed any undead in the area). When the boss died, everyone had to make a WIS saving throw or be stunned for a round as they watched his soul get sucked away.

My players thought they were being cute by locking everything down with Hypnotic Cube... until they realized the portals were spawning anyway and they were only making the situation worse.
