Bedroll of Smothering

You find a bedroll rolled up in the corner of the room. You don't think much of it, being exhausted from your travels. Settling in for the night, your bedroll feels very comfortable, causing you to slowly drift into deep sleep. You are suddenly awoken to your bedroll choking the air from your lungs. Roll Initiative.

Bedroll of Smothering

On occasion, wizards band together to venture out of their confined towers and explore the natural world for earthly spell components, to study magical areas, or even find and harvest rare creatures. Wizards seem to set aside their academic disputes and differences to collectively enhance their knowledge and broaden their understanding of magic.

But it is a lie that all disputes and differences get truly set aside, and many wizards use this opportunity to rid themselves of potential rivals or enemies so that their own ambitions can stand unfettered. One such way is to enchant a bedroll to create a Bedroll of Smothering. These constructs are the perfect way to secretly rid oneself of enemies as bedrolls are easily found in the often outdoor accommodations that these wizards find themselves in when venturing in this way.

The target's bedroll is switched with the Bedroll of Smothering and once they are snuggled inside it, the Bedroll comes alive on the enchanter's command. It tightens and smothers the foe, constricting the air of their body. Some wizards even enchant the Bedroll further, stopping magical translocation and teleportation. If the wizard is particularly powerful, the Bedroll is able to force them into a powerful slumber. While sleeping in this way, even the rib-cracking pressure of the Bedroll may not serve as enough to wake those who finds themselves caught in this trap.

Until this grapple ends, the target is restrained, blinded, and at risk of suffocating, and the bedroll can't smother another target. Forceful Slumber. One Medium or smaller creature that the bedroll is grappling must make a DC 13 Wisdom saving throw or fall magically asleep for 1 hour. The creature can make this saving throw agains if it takes any damage or if another creature uses its action to shake the sleeper awake.
