Freebie Friday - Ruffian

In the heart of a small, bustling village, a ruffian loiters near the edge of the square, his presence an unwelcome shadow in the otherwise lively scene. The village is filled with the sounds of daily life—merchants hawking their wares, children playing in the streets, and the distant clanging of a blacksmith’s hammer—but the ruffian stands apart, his eyes scanning the crowd with a mix of arrogance and casual menace.

He wears a red cape, tattered at the edges from years of use, yet it still drapes boldly over one shoulder, fluttering slightly in the breeze. The cape is a symbol of his defiance, a splash of color that marks him out among the simple villagers, as if daring anyone to challenge his presence. Beneath the cape, he is dressed in worn, rough-spun clothing—a faded tunic of dark brown and trousers tucked into scuffed leather boots. His clothes, while functional, carry the grime of someone who spends more time in back alleys than in open sunlight.

A short sword hangs at his side, the leather-wrapped hilt worn smooth from frequent use. It is no ornate weapon, but rather a tool of intimidation, its blade showing signs of many skirmishes. The sword rests loosely in its scabbard, ready to be drawn at a moment’s notice, and the ruffian’s hand frequently hovers near it, as if to remind those around him of its presence. His fingers drum impatiently on the hilt, betraying an undercurrent of restless energy.
